Where We're Heading PDF Print E-mail

In 2009 the leadership team of HCF set out a 5 year vision for the church. This vision included many specific goals that we are aiming to breathe life into and see them go from dream to reality.

HCF exists to powerfully impact the people of Horwich and beyond by building a contemporary, Biblical church where lives are changed and people are free to be passionate worshippers of God. This can be broken down into 4 parts:

1.  HCF will be a church community that passionately worships God.

We want to be a church where everyone is passionate about Jesus and living obedient lives for Him.

2.  HCF will be a church community that loves people.

We want to be a church where everyone matters, can know they belong and feel valued. We will be a multi-cultural family from across the nations.

3.  HCF will be a church community that shares the brilliant news of Jesus.

We want to be a church where the life changing news of Jesus is shared amongst neighbours, colleagues, friends and family in a real and relevant way.

4.  HCF will be a church community that serves Horwich and the World.

We want to be a church who's influence starts where we live and extends out to the World.

The leadership team would love to chat to you and fill you in on the details or you could download the audio of the vision presentations here.

What We Believe PDF Print E-mail

We believe in:

1. The one true God who lives eternally in three persons - the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.

2. The love, grace and sovereignty of God in creating, sustaining, ruling, redeeming and judging the world.

3. The divine inspiration and supreme authority of the Old and New Testament Scriptures, which are the written Word of God - fully trustworthy for faith and conduct.

4. The dignity of all people, made male and female in God's image to love, be holy and care for creation, yet corrupted by sin, which incurs divine wrath and judgement.

5. The incarnation of God's eternal Son, the Lord Jesus Christ - born of the virgin Mary; truly divine and truly human, yet without sin.

6. The atoning sacrifice of Christ on the cross: dying in our place, paying the price of sin and defeating evil, so reconciling us with God.

7. The bodily resurrection of Christ, the first fruits of our resurrection; His ascension to the Father, and His reign and mediation as the only Saviour of the world.

8. The justification of sinners solely by the grace of God through faith in Christ.

9. The ministry of God the Holy Spirit, who leads us to repentance, unites us with Christ through new birth, empowers our discipleship and enables our witness.

10. The Church, the body of Christ both local and universal, the priesthood of all believers - given life by the Spirit and endowed with the Spirit's gifts to worship God and proclaim the Gospel, promoting justice and love.

11. The personal and visible return of Jesus Christ to fulfil the purposes of God, who will raise all people to judgement, bring eternal life to the redeemed and eternal condemnation to the lost, and establish a new heaven and new earth.

HCF is connected to The Assemblies of God UK.

History PDF Print E-mail

Horwich Christian Fellowship had its beginnings in 1957 when Pastor Roy Beresford purchased Aenon Chapel.  He faithfully ministered there for many years. He continued to minister after reaching retirement age, and seeking a secure future for the fellowship, some members of another local church amalgamated with Aenon in 1995.

Sadly, in 1996 Roy Beresford passed away. Later that year the fellowship came under the leadership of John Goulding.  The church grew in numbers and John had the vision to see the church in a purpose buit facility.  With this in mind, Aenon Chapel was sold and the fellowship moved into rented accommodation at Rivington House, while at the same time changing its name to Horwich Christian Fellowship.

In April 2000 John left to begin a well earned retirement.  At this point Phil Worsley took over the pastorship and followed the vision of establishing the fellowship within its own purpose built building.  Phil oversaw the purchase of the pensioners hall on Rock Street, which then led to our current building.

At the start of 2007 Phil left the fellowship, and at this point Peter Minney (Roy Beresford's son-in-law) took on the position as senior leader untill the church had a new pastor. Then in September 2008, Mike Faun was called into the role of pastor, and to lead the church into a new vision.
